    The fifth of five children, Richard Parsons came into this world in Brooklyn, New York. He was so good in school that he skipped a few classes. Parsons played basketball while earning his BA at the University of Hawaiʻi. He continued his education and graduated first in his class with a Juris Doctor degree from Albany Law School.

    Parsons began his career in government while serving under Nelson Rockefeller, the governor of New York. When Rockefeller was appointed vice president, he accompanied him to Washington, D.C.     Leadership at Time Warner

    In 1991, Parsons became a member of Time Warner’s leadership team. In 1995, he was named president of the firm. During the pivotal years after the AOL acquisition, he assumed the role of CEO in 2002. Despite the many complaints, Parsons did his best to stabilize the business after the merger. He reorganized the company’s operations and increased its profitability.

    As part of its rebranding effort, Time Warner removed “AOL” from its moniker when Parsons was in charge. Warner Music Group was one of the properties he sold in order to lower debt.
